I was talking with a mother-friend the other day who told me her ideal MTO was being able to sit down and go through her coupons to make her grocery list uninterrupted. I smiled understandingly, and wanted to quote Public Enemy to her, “Don’t Believe The Hype!”
Instead, what I did tell her is that, as mothers, we often confuse doing something uninterrupted for the family or home as a great MTO opportunity. But it’s not. What we here at Mommy Time-Out want to encourage mothers to do is something for themselves and NOT for the household, the spouse, the children, or even the dog.
A look of realization and understanding washed over her and she seemed to see MTO’s in a different light.
As a result, Feli and I realized that a better explanation of each of our Mommy Time-Out Guidelines that we posted a few weeks ago might be helpful, so starting next week that’s what we are going to do!
And the first one we will tackle? In short:
You’re On Restriction NO WORK! Or else it doesn’t count and your Time-Out has to start all over again!
So please join in on the discussion and let us know your thoughts!
